My special interests at CILWW include performing accessibility assessments in the 10 counties we serve as well as coordinating CILWW's annual Camp Quest for young adults with disabilities.

Jeanne Lexchel - Resource Counselor
I grew up in and graduated from college in Southeast Minnesota with degrees in the social service field. I worked for a community action agency for many years before moving here. I have been at the Center since January of 2001. I enjoy the work I do and especially the people that I meet. I have been learning a lot about hearing loss, mental illness and transitions throughout life. At home I watch Sci Fi and play solitaire on the computer. I also like to be outside in my yard having a campfire.

Lori McElveny- MAPC Specialist
I never knew about The Center for Independent Living for Western Wisconsin, until I saw a want ad in the newspaper and applied for the job of Receptionist/Secretary. Now that I know what the Center stands for and what they do I am hooked. I moved from Receptionist/Secretary to Administrative Assistant. I have many tasks here at the Center the main task is that “I am the keeper of the data”. If you change your address please let us know, you can e-mail any address changes to me at
lmcelveny@cilww.com I could have used the services of the Center when I was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1997. I was hired in October of 1998. I attended the International Business Collage in Albuquerque New Mexico and received two degrees, Micro Computer Operating Specialist and Computer Secretary. My hobbies/interests include camping, music, fishing, football, and gardening.

Joan Nabbefeld - Volunteer Transportation Coordinator
I got my BS Degree in Social Services from UW-Green Bay in 1977 and then worked as a Hospital Social Worker for 3 years in Milwaukee. I then became a DVR counselor and worked there nearly 20 years. I got my Master's Degree in Adult & Continuing Education from UW-Milwaukee in 1996 and began training/supervising Graduate Interns and new counselors at DVR. My favorite hobbies are singing in my church choir, floral arranging and scrapbooking.

Kari Ann Nelson - Resource Counselor

My hobbies include gardening, shopping, traveling, camping, cars, and cats.

Kay Sommerfeld - Assistant Director
I have been at the Center the longest of all the staff. I have worked as a personal care coordinator, resource counselor, accessibility specialist, and am now the assistant director.  I have been working with people with disabilities since 1978. In my spare time I enjoy playing volleyball, sailing with my husband, and spending time with my family ( including 3 cats and a dog). If I am not doing any of the above, I have my nose in a book as I love to read.

Maribeth Hartung - Benefit Specialist / Employment Specialist
I am excited to be back at CILWW with all the new opportunites that are presenting themselves. I have continued to be focused on employment opportunities and am fortunate to be able to continue to assist in the development of new programs.
